In the VERBUND upper Danube power plant group, our employees are responsible for the management and maintenance of the four large run-of-river power plants along the Danube River: Aschach Ottensheim-Wilhering Abwinden-Asten Wallsee-Mitterkirchen
While we know that master craftsmen are essential to power plants on both the energy and the mechanical engineering side, apprentices also play an incredibly important role. Our apprentices carry a big responsibility from the outset.
Our combination of two apprenticeship professions, which is unique in Austria, provides the ideal basis for learning to confidently navigate our power plants with the best qualifications.
As VERBUND’s upper Danube hydropower plant group, we manage the power plants as well as all allocated plants within our reach.
In addition, we develop investment and cost plans and organise (in addition to the operational plan for the on-call and shift service) all the necessary maintenance, servicing, renewal and expansion projects in close cooperation with our colleagues from other departments.
Power plant projects are long-term projects, most of which are based on years of planning. To ensure that these huge power plant buildings can continue to function for a long time, daily monitoring, regular audits and ongoing maintenance work are required.
The power plants of VERBUND’s upper Danube power plant group were first put into operation between 1964 and 1979. This is precisely why it is important to replace the old generator sets with new ones and to modernise the partially outdated technology.
Together with VERBUND’s lower Danube power plant group, the power plants are responsible for one fifth of all Austrian electricity generation.
