Diversity
Diversity is the key to innovation
Different perspectives and a culture of equality are crucial for the success of the company.
We are proud of the diversity of our VERBUND employees – active inclusion shapes our corporate culture.
VERBUND is committed to cooperative, fair and reliable collaboration. The focus is on mutual respect regardless of gender, age, origin, belief, sexual orientation, disability or individual life situation.
Continuously improving
In order to live up to all these values, we regularly scrutinise our current state in various audits and certification processes.
At VERBUND, diversity management is an established practice for which we received an independent TÜV AUSTRIA Diversity Management Certificate. By signing and implementing the Diversity Charter, we confirm our commitment to respecting and recognising diversity in society and in the workplace.

1. Equality, diversity and inclusion
Diversity and inclusion are essential components of our corporate culture. Our holistic diversity strategy has been in place for more than ten years. We are currently focusing on two main areas:
- Gender balance
- Disability inclusion
Gender balance means achieving the right balance in all areas of the company. In addition to the Mission V-emale women’s network and the TU Vienna Scholarship for Women, we offer all employees a gender-neutral high-potential development programme. We are committed to a culture that enables career opportunities & a work-life balance for men and women alike.
Joint action is needed to develop sustainable solutions for environmental, social and economic challenges. That’s why we place an emphasis on learning from each other and on intergenerational knowledge transfer. Collaboration across interdisciplinary and cross-departmental teams promotes innovative ideas and team spirit. Effective generation management is therefore very important. We bring employees under the age of 35 together in an employee network and create space for exchange between experienced senior executives and up-and-coming talent in mentoring programmes.
For us, sustainability and responsible conduct towards society, the environment and the economy go hand in hand. All of the issues for which we as a company, as employees and senior executives take responsibility are compiled in our Code of Conduct.
Actively implementing the Code
- We treat each other with respect.
- We contribute our ideas and skills.
- We communicate openly and clearly, promoting constructive feedback and the willingness to innovate.
- We change our perspective by judging new situations to be “different” or “unknown” rather than “better” or “worse”.
- We are open and unbiased, showing interest in new cultures and world views.
2. Accessibility
As an inclusive company, VERBUND is actively committed to accessibility and self-determined participation for everyone. At the same time, we also focus on promoting health, which supports the well-being of all employees and creates a positive, productive working atmosphere.
Our aim is not only to integrate people with disabilities into the VERBUND working environment but also to actively include them. Creating the right framework conditions is crucial to achieving this. We focus on accessible workplaces (structural accessibility), accessible IT systems (digital accessibility) and colleagues and senior executives who are open and sensitive to managing diversity (accessibility in practice). Together, we create a work environment in which everyone feels they belong and are valued.
We focus on diverse qualifications, strengths and interests so that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We are committed to making individual workplace adjustments, which begin as early as the application process. In doing so, we respect privacy and create an environment of trust. At our company, there are no barriers on the path to a career – we move forward together and shape an inclusive future.
We pay attention to the individual needs of our employees and encourage them to actively address accessibility needs. By communicating openly and transparently, we create a working environment in which everyone can work well together.

3. Communities and initiatives
It takes all of us to achieve the strategic goals of our Mission V and to drive forward the change needed. Each and every one of us plays a crucial role in this by actively participating in the process of internal corporate transformation.
The networks create space for interaction, inspiration and mutual support. Proactive involvement means helping to shape the company by sharing ideas, experiences and expertise. These dedicated groups work towards innovation and progress on a daily basis, and make a significant contribution to achieving an appreciative and supportive corporate culture.
Mission V-emale
One of the primary goals of our women’s network is to establish, promote and continually develop the empowerment of women for women across a wide range of topics. In this women’s community, we want to share ideas, solve problems, create opportunities for each other, focus on activities and priorities and build solid, sustainable relationships.
Young Stars
The network for all our employees under 35 is for everyone who is motivated to actively help shape the working environment at VERBUND and to get to know new colleagues. The aim is to break down silo thinking, strengthen the “we are all VERBUND” feeling and highlight potential and know-how.
DiversAbility
At VERBUND, we actively promote the inclusion of people with disabilities and chronic illnesses. This group provides a safe space for sharing experiences for all employees with disabilities and chronic or mental illnesses, as well as allies who are involved in this issue.
Food intolerances and allergies
For employees with food intolerances, allergies such as fructose, lactose or histamine intolerance, and coeliac disease, there is a dedicated platform for networking and continually improving VERBUND’s support provision.
